Free School Meals are changing
Free school meals are changing - please check if your child qualifies
The Government is changing free school meal eligibility from September 2026 and we would like all families to please check if they are eligible.
What's changing?
From September, every child whose parent or carer receives Universal Credit will qualify for a free school meal, whatever their household income. At the same time, the protections that have let some families keep free meals after their circumstances changed are ending. So some children will become newly eligible, and a small number may no longer qualify.
What to do?
To check if your child qualifies, please run a free, instant eligibility check yourself using the following link Check | LGfL FSM
It takes a couple of minutes and tells you straight away if you are eligible. We recommend completing the check even if your child already gets free meals, doesn't currently get them, or you're not sure.
Do I need to apply still?
Please be aware, the checker is to enable families to see if they are eligible and does not replace any formal application process required by Cheshire East Council. If you are eligible, please apply via the Cheshire East website.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Toy Appeal Teddy Collection
Many of you will be familiar with the wonderful work of the Toy Appeal, a charity we have proudly supported in previous years. Thanks to the incredible generosity of Bexton families, hundreds of children have benefitted from our donations that help create Christmas parcels for children who may otherwise receive very little.
Dee Drake, one of the founders of the Toy Appeal, has once again asked for our support and we would love to help. This year, the charity is asking for donations of new or nearly-new teddy bears. As the appeal continues to grow, preparations for Christmas need to begin earlier each year.
If you are able to donate a new or nearly-new teddy, please send it into school via your child's class teacher or hand it in at the school office. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help bring comfort, joy and a little Christmas magic to a child who may be facing difficult circumstances.
Thank you, as always, for your kindness and support.
Important Safety Notice - Squishy Dumpling Toys
Squishy Dumpling toys have become one of the latest must-have sensory toys for children. However, parents and carers should be aware that some versions currently on sale have been recalled after being found to contain unsafe levels of chemicals. Please take a moment to read the information below and check whether your child owns any of the affected products.
Enterprise
This week saw the whole school enjoying the annual Year 6 Enterprise. There were a great range of stalls with things for the children to buy, make and experience. The Year 6 children did a fabulous job and loved every minute of it. They were particularly great when helping the younger children deal with their purchases and their change. Even though it was hot, there was a pleasant breeze and plenty of shade on the field. Thank you to all our parents who have supported this event. It really is one of the highlights of the school year.
Year 5 PE and Art Day at Knutsford Academy
Year 5 had a wonderful trip to Knutsford Academy, joining other schools from Knutsford to take part in a PE and Art day. They enjoyed benchball, kick rounders, frisbee golf and touch rugby as well as a creative art session. Well done Year 5, you were polite, great team players and approached every activity with enthusiasm and determination.
Music Lessons
If your child is interested in learning a musical instrument in September, please find attached information from Music for Life about the lessons and opportunities available.
Mobberley FC
Mobberley FC is currently looking for enthusiastic new players to join their Under 12s squad for the 2026/27 season. A welcoming and community-focused club, Mobberley FC provides a fantastic environment for young players to develop their football skills, build confidence and make lasting friendships. Whether your child already plays or is simply keen to give football a try, the club would love to hear from you. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Eco News
When I'm watering the garden in the evening, I've noticed lots of beautiful flying insects, which I believe are moths. I've been trying to identify a particularly striking orange one with a wingspan of no more than 2 cm, but there seem to be so many different species that it's proving quite a challenge!
It's currently resting amongst my raspberry canes, so I'll need to do a little more investigating. I came across the links below and was fascinated by the incredible variety of moths, they're remarkably colourful and decorative creatures.
They're certainly a far cry from the drab little moths most of us associate with eating clothes!

Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, thank you for your lovely books!
